 What happens if the sun burns out?

The sun keeps us warm and provides light. The earth and our sun are the perfect distance apart. If the earth came closer to the sun we would burn and if it went farther away

we would freeze. This is what would happen if the distance between the sun and the earth changed.

When the sun burns out it would be freezing and it would be equivalent to the coldest winter day but 3 times as cold. Not just in the winter, even in the summer. What am I talking about? There would be no seasons because the earth would always be cold. By a year it would be completely dark and it would be impossible to live above ground. Actually you could just about live underground. But where would your food grow? 

It would be impossible to grow food and feed animals to eat. You could eat canned food but it would eventually run out. Unless there are animals that live underground, and can survive without sunlight. Although if you are really starving you can eat bugs and insects underground.

The worst thing is that the solar system would collapse and the tides would stop. This is bad because this could cause many floods. It would be an ice age that never stopped. 

Do not worry, no humans will live through this. If your descendants happen to live through this they would die after 6-7 months anyway.

    The area that the earth is situated in is called the goldilocks zone. It’s named after the fairytale ;) Im glad this won’t happen in our lifetime!

    Do you think it would be good to move the earth a bit farther away from the sun to counteract global warming?

      If you moved the earth farther from the sun then the earth would freeze. They are positioned perfectly so that the earth will not burn up or freeze over.
